Build And design

Full Review of Karbonn A21Karbonn A21 has an aesthetic and eye-catching exterior and back panel seems similar to what we got in HTC’s Desire C. the Build quality is awesome comparing to the price to which it is tagged. The device is well planned for great handling and provides fine approach to every part of screen with single hand.
The design is good with the 4.5-inch capacitive touch screen together with front camera and sensors embedded on top and four capacitive keys for home, menu back and search. The back panel sports a 5MP camera with an LED flash and loudspeaker Grille at down side along with Karbonn logo.
The side of the device is occupied by microUSB port and Volume rockers to the left and right respectively. And Power button and 3.5mm Audio jack at top.

Display

4.5-inch LCD Display

A21 has a 4.5-inch LCD display which has the WVGA resolution of 540 x 960. The display is quite good and has a perfect balance of Saturation and contrast featured with the real world colors. Screen has the 240 ppi pixel density, which gives the crispy clear display. You got better visibility while on bright sunlight and changing contrast and brightness automatically with Ambient Light sensors and multi-touch support which gives better experience which doing common tasks like surfing on web or watching movies or image galley, etc.
The problem occurs when you watch the movies on landscape mode along with your friends, the screen becomes like negative when you see it from left side with great viewing angle, but it is budget device not the high-end handset, so it is fine with the quality of display.

Camera

Karbonn A21 Review CameraThe device has a 5MP rear shooter with the LED Flash light available for low light conditions  but the device’s LED doesn’t seemed very nice  means it gives the light only at front section and doesn’t provides the requisite amount of light at the sides, so the images becomes more lighted at center and low lighted at sides. While the still shots taken at daylight is nice and with some smudges it is quite enough for a 5MP shooter. The extra features like Auto Focus, Face Detection gave the smile on our faces and thus over-all performance of rear camera is good. You get the social networking options of tagging which seemed nice.

The video shoots from rear camera is of VGA resolution with 15-18fps, it is only the estimation of fps. The video taken by it was having perfect amount of colors and contrast.
Talking about the front camera which is of 1.3MP, allows the great video calls and decent still shots. Concluding the above description the camera quality is also nice, and reasonable for the price.

Hardware And Performance

Karbonn equips its A21 with the Dual Core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A5 which actually rounding of the 1.15GHz which we did notice while the unboxing the handset, we did not know the reason of it but it seemed it is underclocked to prevent the heating and extra battery consumption. With the 512 MB RAM and 2.57 GB ROM available for user since the total is 4GB the device has much space for installing the apps and working of apps with the buttery smooth experience. It has the 1800 mAh Li-Ion battery which gives Talk time of 5-6hours on 3G and 8hours hours on 2G with the Data on. And 3.5 hours of HD video streaming. While the HD games will carry on till 2-3 hours, since it is highly dependent of resource usage the more detailed games will drain the battery much faster.

Karbonn A21 Review A21 gives much more than Canvas 2, since we had conducted some of the benchmarking tests and found shocking results.

  • Antutu Benchmarks: A21 got 6759 while Canvas 2 gets only 6260. (Higher is better)
  • Quadrant Benchmarking:  A21 scored 2676 while Canvas 2 gets 2490. (Higher is better)
  • NenaMark2 Benchmarking:  A21 scored 27.8 fps while Canvas 2 gets 23.9 fps. (Higher is better)
  • Rightware Browsermark: 1562 gained by A21 and 1540 by Canvas 2. (Higher is better)
  • GL benchmarks for frames: A21 gets 3472 and Canvas 2 was again way back to 2629. (Higher is better)

Hence we can easily conclude that A21 has much more better performance that Canvas 2 and others of same range. The Multimedia performance of A21 is very good as it decodes the codec of videos very quickly and also play HD video upto720p smoothly while 1080p is also viewable.

Karbonn A21 Review The performance of Networking and data uploads as well as downloads was very fast on 3G while on 2G the networks doesn’t drops at all. Browsing through web is very good and has no lags, since you can have lags on Stock Android Browser, install Chrome or others from Play Store for instance.
Gaming on A21 is very awesome which includes great frame rates on casual games like Temple Run and Angry Birds all parts and nice frame rates on Asphalt 7 or NFS Shift like high-end games. Now, more than this you cannot have with any device below 10k.

Connectivity

A21 has the great connectivity with no network fluctuation. It has 2SIM configuration, including first 3G while second one works on 2G network. The download and upload speed on 3G is good which gives speed up to 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA. 2G has the GPRS and EDGE support and A21 has the common Android features including Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Navigation Technology of A-GPS with Google Maps. The Tethering is of USB, Wi-Fi Hotspot. Bluetooth v2.1 which is outdated but offers fine transfers.

OS and UI

The A21 features the Android ICS v4.0.4 operating system, which can be updated through upgrade over the air (OTA) or Manufacturer ROM updates. The UI seemed perfect and gives stock Android experience with default Home and App Launcher. While the OS have some bugs which can be improved, gives sluggish performance while launching multiple apps or swiping through windows of apps.

Karbonn A21 Storage UI Review The company adds lots of advancements and customizations which includes the Customizable Home Screen, Live Motion Wallpapers, Voice Navigation, Games, Thinksoft Office, Wi-Fi Direct, Calculator, Alarm Clock, Stopwatch, World Times, Voice Recorder, Multi Language Support, Mobile TV, Caller ID with Photo, Power On / Off Animation, STK Enabling.
Addition of extra and stock apps like Gmail, Twitter, Google Search, Google Play, Skype, Google Talk, Yahoo Messenger, Flickr, Picasa, Facebook, PayTM, NexGTv, WhatsApp, Google Currents makes the device fully blossomed.

Wrap-Up

Now, we have seen A21 by Karbonn deeply and came here for the conclusion and noticed that it is very good handset with prefect combination of everything means hardware as well as software. It is truly worth for its price or we can say have more features than its price. From Build Quality to the OS and UI it is truly good and better among all the smartphone of its range means below 10k.
If you want a device below than 10k then, buy it without hesitation or if wanted handset below 12k then also it will perfectly suits you.

Best of all Mobiles , No legs at all, fastest ,smoothest in touch like feather touch, Two Days Battery Back up, Finest Camera, Handy. Crystal clear call sound with good network. I found better than any other brands like samsung, Sony Nokia. When you purchase, thoroughly check the mobile as these are chinese comapanies seling through Indian Partners If you see even one function, touch not proper , immediately change on next day. If you are lucky to get Piece without manufacturing defects it is best. Only Two drawbacks External Speaker Sound is very low and Contacts does not have Number export to SIM card, Can not see Number stored in sim card. Otherwise mobile is best in its kind. Purchase this mobile as good built quality , Battery ,Parts , Service centre everything available. Don’t go for Micromax,, Lava , I ball etc as this is fastest with beautiful Resolution.

1.2 GHz Dual Core ARM Cortex-A5 Processor is what is mentioned in your review. But when I tried to find the specifications using Android system App it shows ARMv7 Processor rev 1(v71) and the device is msm7627a which is a QUALCOMM snapdragon S1 processor single core and has speeds upto 1 GHz. Why this difference ? Please help

The screen is a very thin and fragile glass, had this phone 2 months and the touch stopped responding, coz the screen cracked. I can even feel the glass bits stickin out, unlike other phones which still work after cracked.
Anyway having it repaired outside of india is a b**ch! Trying to order a replacement screen from eBay now. Fingers crossed.
Its been half a year without my A21.
