Micromax Canvas 4 is company’s first flagship smartphone in Indian. It has generated much buzz in recent days. The prebooking process of Canvas 4 was also different from other smartphones. Users were not having any details regarding it’s specification or how it will look like but then also the company has got very good number of pre-order request. Recently when Micromax officially launched Canvas 4 then many users decided to cancel their order and many users still have not got the smartphone. So, whether you should buy Micromax Canvas 4 or not ? Let’s have a detail look on this smartphone.
Micromax Canvas 4 comes with a 5-inch of 720p HD display screen protected with Gorilla Glass. The smartphone is well powered by 1.2GHz quad-core Mediatek MTK6589 Cortex A7 processor with 1GB of RAM. The rear camera is of 13-megapixel and front facing camera is of 5-megapixel. It is packed with 2000 mAh battery and runs Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean Operating System. The price of Micromax Canvas 4 is Rs. 17,999.
Design and Build Quality
However the finishing is poor, the back cover is having little gaps on its edges. The speakers and earpiece has quite rough edges which are not good to touch. After that there is metal buttons (Volume Rocker, Power or Resume Button).
Canvas 4 has got 13MP of rear camera with Sony sensor. This Sony Exmor sensor is present in various high-end smartphones like Galaxy S4, Lenovo K900 and Oppo Find 5. However in Canvas 4 it looks like Micromax has used any cheaper version of this sensor. The Camera User Interface of this smartphone is similar to other Android phones which runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Operating System. You will easily find the useful camera modes like HDR, Panorama, Burst mode, Smile shutter and more from the navigation bar present on the left pane.
Images taken from Canvas 4 Smartphone are decent but not so good also. They are able average. It take some times to focus and also the focus is not accurate. You can record full HD 1080p videos on this smartphone.
Software and User Interface
One the software front this smartphone runs Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean Operating System with some customization too. There are total of 5 homescreen and you can’t add or remove the number of homescreen in this phone. It has got a transparent notification screen which you can access via swiping from top of the screen with your single finger. And to get the Quick Settings you have to use your 2 fingers and scroll from top. From there you can get all the options to control Brightness, WiFi, Airplane mode, Bluetooth, Data Connection, Data usage, Audio Profiles, Timeout and Auto rotation.
The company has also added a new feature called as M! Unlock which will let you unlock the lock screen by just blowing Air or shaking the smartphone. You can also download this app from Google Play for any other devices. If you don’t like it, then you can disable it and after that you will get a normal lock screen. You will also get different lock screen option like Slide, Face Unlock, Pattern, PIN and Password and Voice Unlock.
The phone also comes with Daydream feature which acts as a screensaver when the phone is charging or docked. The company has also added Smart Gestures which you can enable from the Settings page. The various Smart Gestures option included in this smartphone includes option to attend incoming calls by holding the phone close to the ear, you can also dial any number by choosing a contact and after that taking your phone to your ear, you can also change the profile to silent by flipping the phone upside down, put an incoming call on silent by flipping the phone over and keeping it down, and switch on the speaker phone on a call when you turn the phone upside down.
This phone has a poo up lay feature as similar to Samsung smartphone. With the help of which you can resize the video window and place it any where on the screen. The Video player lets you preview a video when other video playing. The other feature which is similar to Samsung smartphone is the Smart Pause feature which automatically pause any running video when you take your eyes away from the screen.
The device is powered by 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek 6589 processor with PowerVR SGX544 MP2 GPU similar to the Micromax A116 Canvas HD. But due to Android 4.2 the benchmark scores are better then Micromax Canvas HD. Canvas 4 has got 4000 points in Quadrant benchmark. We checked various games like Asphalt 7 and NFS Most Wanted, which works smooth without any lags on this smartphone.
Buy it or not ?
At the price range under Rs. 18,000 the Canvas 4 does appear as over-priced when compared to other smartphones like Spice Pinnacle HD or the Wickedleak Wammy Z+. The Micromax Canvas HD is priced Rs. 5000 less then Canvas 4 and it also packs similar specification as Canvas 4
But Canvas is packed with some new features and good build quality. The Gorilla Glass on display screen is also positive point of this smartphone. But above all one major thing which will make you think before buying this smartphone is the service centers problem. If one time your device gets damage then it will be very hard for you to make it repaired. So, if you trust on Micromax then you can buy this smartphone, other then you can go with other alternatives in the market.
