Tweetbot 2.0, the best Twitter client for Mac
If you are a Mac user and love Twitter then I am 100 percent sure that you might have tried Tweetbot one time. Currently one of the best third-party Twitter client for Mac, the app gives everything which a Twitter user wants, making itself a lot better than the official Twitter for Mac app. Originally launched in 2012, since then Tweetbot is being used by most of the Mac users and now it has received a major update. Upgrading the version number to 2.0, the new Tweetbot suits perfect in the newly launched OS X Yosemite environment.
While the app still maintains its amazing functionality, the layout, and overall User Interface is a lot better and beautiful. Tweetbot 2 brings flattened look and more iOS like design elements. Circular profile images, simpler color palette with the dark sidebar and white main column, makes Tweetbot faster and awesome.
Talking about the new changes and improvements, the dark gray color of the sidebar has been replaced with a dark translucent look, the sidebar buttons are also flat now. As usual the author profile image is at the top left side with timeline icon below that, followed by mentions, messages, favorites, and more. The iconography is now more like the iOS version of the app. While the circular profile photos look awesome, but if you want then you can also revert back to the old roundrect profile images from the preference movie.
The First thing which you will notice while composing a new tweet in Tweetbot 2 is its location. The compose window is now a separate window, making itself easy to navigate. Another important improvement is the relocation of Column option. Look at the bottom left side and you will notice a rectangle with three boxes, click on that and you will get an option to open the Lists tab in the main window, in new window or even in new column. A lot better than the previous version, which made the overall process complex and hard. The search bar has been also tweaked. The new search bar is slightly above from its original location, along with the new tweet compose icon.
You can double-click on any tweet to see its full details like the number of retweets, favorites, tweet time and several other options to retweet, reply or share. The good thing is that the retweet option allows you to use the newly released “Quote tweet” feature. Just click on the Tweet icon and you will see an option to “Quote tweet.”
The image viewer has been also tweaked. Just click on the image and it will open it in a separate window with an option to share or save it. Another big improvement is the new Profile page. It has been tweaked with flat UI elements, more like the iOS version. Instead of showing the latest tweets below the followers count, the new profile view shows recent photos from that particular twitter account.
One feature which some of you might miss is the retweet tab. It has been now removed from the sidebar. Last thing, which you will definitely notice first is the new icon. Similar to the app, the icon has also received the flattened look.
Those who are interested can download Tweetbot 2.0 for Mac from the Mac App Store. If you already owned the previous version then you can upgrade to 2.0 free of cost. But if you are a new user then you will have to pay $12.99, which is discounted price. The original price of the app is $19.99.
