FBI Paid More Than $1.3 Million To Hack Into San Bernardino shooter's iPhone
Even when Apple refused to co-operate, the Federal Bureau of Investigation successfully unlocked San Bernardino shooter’s iPhone. But unfortunately, the FBI did that with the help of a third-party. To whom, according to Reuters, the FBI paid more than $1.3 million just to hack into Syed Farook’s iPhone.
In comparison, the amount FBI paid is more than the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation makes in seven year, James Comey, FBI Director said at the Aspen Security Forum in London."But it was, in my view, worth it," he added.
While FBI has paid many hackers in the past, but the amount which the federal government paid to unlock Farook’s iPhone is actually the most they have every paid for a publicized hacking contract.
This was part of a long fight between Apple and the federal agency. As the agency first ordered Apple to help the FBI unlock the phone, but when Apple refused to do that, the Federal Bureau decided to take the help of third-party.
