Singapore adapts these futuristic driverless pods
Singapore is joining the future before everyone else. The country is planning to bring the driverless pod vehicles (see above) for its citizens.
These pods not only look attractive, but are also packed with futuristic features. Like for example it runs on electricity and without the need of a driver. The pod (Ya! we are calling it that) will be running on smaller roads in Singapore by the end of this year. It will work as a public transport for communities or school campuses.
The pods have been made possible with the partnership between 2getthere, the Dutch company which manufactures these pods, and SMRT, Singapore’s transportation operator. As officially announced, these 24-passenger carrying cars aka pods will hit roads by the end of this year. As 2getthere noted, these cars have the ability to handle a load of up to 8,000 passengers per hour going in a single direction.
Singapore isn’t the first country to accept these vehicles. They are already running in Abu Dhabi’s cleantech business park, Masdar City. But the interesting thing is that even Abu Dhabi’s driverless vehicles are produced by 2getthere and SMRT.
