Hotstar, a popular content streaming service, on Monday launched its premium subscription service. Priced at Rs. 199 per month, the subscription will allow you to watch popular American TV shows in India, as they premiere in the US.

Hotstar has kicked off its new premium subscription service with HBO’s Game of Thrones Season 6 premiere. The first episode of Season 6, that aired in the US on Sunday, was made available on Hotstar minutes after it aired in the US.

The company is making this possible with Star India’s recent partnership with HBO for airing American TV shows in India. This exclusive offer includes some of the most popular American TV shows like Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, True Detective, Vinyl, Veep, Entourage, Leftovers, The Sopranos, Band of Brothers, and many more

One thing important to note here is that, though reports claim that Hotstar will offer uncensored version of US TV shows and movies, including Game of Thrones. But Hotstar has not officially confirmed it. The company has just said that it will offer ‘unspoiled’ version of shows and movies.

Game of Thrones is HBO’s most popular TV show right now. It was also the most pirated TV shows online. So, it won’t be wrong to say that this partnership will help Hotstar attract more users. It will also give Hotstar and advantage over Netflix in India, which is the world’s leading video streaming service. In comparison to Hotstar, Netflix’ subscription charges are higher. Netflix price in India starts at Rs. 500 per month and goes up to Rs. 800. And even at that price, Netflix doesn’t offer Game of Thrones.

In its premium TV show catalogue, Hotstar currently lists over 36 popular shows, which include some popular names like The Newsroom and Silicon Valley. Along with TV shows, Hotstar will also offer 70 Hollywood movies, released in 2015.

Hotstar is currently available on Android, iOS and Web Browser. Along with TV shows and Movies, Hotstar also streams other live contents like IPL matches.
