You Will Soon Be Able To Run All Android Apps On Chromebook

Google Play on Chrome

It appears like reports were correct and Google is indeed working to connect the Google Play Store and its Chrome OS. As spotted by a Reddit user, the upcoming version of Chrome OS will allow users to run Android apps and games on their Chromebook. The user who spotted it first, saw the new option "Enable Android apps to run on your Chromebook" on the settings page of Chrome OS version 51.

While the feature is currently only available in the beta version of Chrome OS, but those who were able to access this new option saw a Get Started screen before it automatically closed itself. (Just like in the image attached above.)

The rumors about Google merging Chrome and Android started a couple of months back, but the search giant later confirmed that it is not planning to merge these two platforms. So, we are expecting that this new option to run Android apps on Chromebook might be related to something that Microsoft already offers in Windows 10 and Windows Phone i.e. Universal apps.

Currently, Google allows Chromebook users to run Android apps through Android Runtime for Chrome. But that involves a few extra steps and not all apps are utilizing this feature. So, Google needs something that can help developers to easily make their apps available for both Android and Chromebook devices. While we don’t know much about this new feature, but from the looks it appears like Google is working to make the Play Store accessible on Chromebook.

The news is pretty big for the Chrome OS users, as Google Play currently has hundreds and millions of apps. With this functionality users will easily be able to enjoy all their favorite Android apps on their Chromebook, without the need of leaving their notebook.

Hopefully, we will get to know more about it at the upcoming Google I/O 2016 developer conference.
